Saturday 25th October – 7.30pm – Concert – Peter Coughlan / Frankie Gavin and De Dannan – Crown Moran Hotel (Bentley Suite) – £15 (advance of day)/ £17 (on door)/ £6 (under 18s)
Peter Coughlan grew up in a farmhouse in Co. Offally, where there was much Irish music and dancing. He moved to London in his late teens. Possessed of a remarkably powerful voice, he sang in rock bands in Ireland from the age of 14, but always loved folk and traditional music, which he started singing in pubs when he moved to London.
With a young family to support, he never performed professionally, but he gradually gained a reputation as a performer. He formed and fronted the band Hungry Grass with John Gaughan and toured throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Peter sang at The Royal Albert Hall for the state visit of Irish President, Michael D Higgins in April this year. He also sang for President Higgins when he visited Lorient, France, in August to address the Festival Interceltique.
