James grew up in Luton. He has played music from the age of 8 and learned the Uilleann Pipes from Tommy Keane, here at the London Irish Centre. He took part and won many All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil competitions in his youth. He pursued a career in music and has performed extensively over 15 years with Sin-e, The Oysterband and Cara Dillon. He is in demand as a session musician, has played on many film scores and also writes and teaches music. Recently, he has taken a break from touring to concentrate on his business interests and raising a young family, but he remains a popular musician on the traditional session scene.
