Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, from An Rinn in the west Waterford Gaeltacht, began playing the tin-whistle at the age of eight and quickly progressed to the uilleann pipes, learning from David Power and later Jimmy O’Brien-Moran. He cites them, together with Séamus Ennis, Willie Clancy, Tommy Reck and Patsy Touhey, as his greatest influences.
Caoimhín, who was named TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year in 2012, appears solo on the opening night of the Festival and in concert with Mick O’Connor, John Bowe on Saturday afternoon.
