Alex Kelly
County Sligo concertina player, Alex Kelly, comes from a very musical family. He was a member of the national award winning Sligo group: Tog a hOcht. He has been a highly valued member of the traditional Irish session scene here in London ever since he moved over in recent years – first playing regular sessions in West London with Dublin accordionist, Conal Cuttle and fiddler, Deirdre Glynn. In 2019 he was involved in performances of the ‘De Cuéllar Suite’ which was composed by Michael Rooney and pays tribute to the Spanish Armada. Alex works in the capital as a secondary school teacher.
Alex taught concertina at the 20th Return to Camden Town Festival at the London Irish Centre and received great reviews from his workshop students – we are delighted to welcome him back to teach for our annual Festival this year.
