Edwina Guckian DVD Launch – Claire Egan Album Launch
Sean Nós dancer Edwina Guckian, from Drumsna in Co. Leitrim, learned her dancing from her mother and the local dancers of Leitrim and Roscommon. Her style is greatly influenced by the music she grew up listening to. A fine musician, she plays the fiddle and tin whistle and graduated from St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, with a degree in Music, English and Education.
Edwina, who is performing with the Leitrim Equation at our Sunday evening concert at the RADA Studio Theatre, launches her DVD of Sean Nós Dance tutorials and performances. The DVD features 12 of Edwina’s Leitrim Sean Nós reel steps, broken down and explained simply and clearly to suit dancers of all levels and skills. It also features performances from across Leitrim, with guest appearances from Sean Nós ar an tSionann and live music from some of the finest Leitrim musicians.
London-born fiddle player Claire Egan launches her debut album, Turning Tides. From a musical family, Claire grew up immersed in traditional music and is recognised for her unique interpretation of the tunes and fine musicianship. She has an impeccable technique and an innate understanding the expressive quality within the music. She is accompanied on the album by her sister Sinead on guitar (who will perform with her today), Jack Talty on piano and De Danaan’s Mick Conneely on bouzouki.
“Her sweet tone, assured pace and skilful ingenuity allows Claire to delve into nooks, crannies and corners of tunes, effortlessly making them her own.”
